Buckingham enters her FRESHMAN season as an outside hitter for the Golden Bears.

A four-year letterwinner at Newport Harbor High School... as a senior captain in 2008, earned the Captain's Award, Orange County All-Star Team selection, Newport Mesa Dream Team selection and All-Sunset-League first team selection... named one of the top 15 female athletes in Orange County by the California State Senate in 2009... as a junior, received recognition as a 2007 Daily Pilot Dream Team member and All-Sunset-League second team honors... helped lead her team to three league titles (2005-07)... also lettered in track and field (2006-07)... played for the Orange County Volleyball Club... named team captain in 2009... helped her team to the 2006 Volleyball Festival Championship title and division placement in 2007-08... participated in the 2009 Junior Olympics... a four-year member of the Newport Harbor academic honor roll.

Mary Katherine Buckingham was born in Newport Beach, Calif.... parents are Jim and Mary Buckingham... both parents graduated from Cal in 1980... father Jim was a four-year varsity sailor at Cal... uncle Michael O'Brien was a member of Cal's men's volleyball team from 1984-87 and won the national championship in 1985... has three siblings; brother Charlie (20) is a junior at Georgetown, and sisters Sarah (16) and Elizabeth (15)... brother Charlie is on the varsity sailing team at Georgetown... has not declared a major.
