Bears Fall In Three To No. 18 UCLA
LOS ANGELES – Junior middle blocker Lillian Schonewise and senior outside hitter Christina Higgins each had 11 kills but the Cal volleyball team fell to No. 18 UCLA on Sunday, 25-21, 25-23, 25-15.
The Bears (9-17, 1-15 Pac-12), coming off their first conference victory Friday night over No. 21 USC, had a chance to even the match after they established a 21-18 lead in the second set. The Bruins came back to tie it at 21-21 and the teams then exchanged points to keep the score tied at 23-23. UCLA then scored the final two points of the second set to take command.
Higgins pushed her career kill total to 1,240, which moved her into ninth place on Cal's all-time list.
The Bears had a season-high .303 hitting percentage.
Junior middle blocker Lara Vukasovic added six kills and three blocks for the Bears, who also got seven kills from sophomore outside hitter Nikki Gombar.
Cal will return to action Friday when it hosts No. 22 Colorado at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.
