No. 3 Cal Tops Whittier, 24-3, at Aggie Shootout

DAVIS, CALIF. – Senior All-American Aleksa Saponjic had a team-high four goals and junior standout Colin Mulcahy added three goals as No. 3 Cal dominated Whittier, 24-3, Saturday in the Golden Bears' second match of the Aggie Shootout in Davis. With the win, Kirk Everist's squad improved to 11-1 after earlier Saturday defeating Cal Baptist, 17-7 in Davis, and topping Navy, 19-5, Friday at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Besides Saponjic and Mulcahy, 10 other Cal players scored against Whittier with Chandler Jarrels-Stickney, Nicholas Carniglia, Thomas Agramonte, Luka Ivanovic, J.D. Ratchford, Troy Oates and Preston Lee producing two goals apiece. Sophomore goalie Lazar Andric finished with seven saves.

The Bears will next face Occidental at 8 a.m. and Chapman at 1:50 p.m. Sunday at the Aggie Shootout. Following the Aggie Shootout, Cal will return to MSPF league play when it travels to Pacific on Friday, Oct. 3 for a 7 p.m. match in Stockton.

In the morning match versus Cal Baptist, Mulcahy scored a career-high six goals after pacing Cal with three goals during the win over Navy. Saponjic added five goals and senior Jon Sibley recorded nine saves in the morning victory over Cal Baptist.
