SEATTLE  - California freshman Mikayla Cowling scored a career-high 20 points and the Bears earned a pair double-doubles from Brittany Boyd and Reshanda Gray for the third consecutive game, but Washington was able to come away with the tight 79-77 win Sunday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena.

In the back-and-forth game between two teams expected to contend for the Pac-12 title, Washington took advantage of California's fouls to claim the two-point victory. The Bears (11-4, 3-1 Pac-12) had the edge in field goal percentage and the teams both pulled down 38 rebounds, but Washington went to the line 30 times compared to Cal's 12, hitting 18 of 22 in the second half alone to ice the game for the Huskies (13-3, 2-2 Pac-12).

Boyd had her fifth consecutive double-double with 15 points and 15 assists to go along with seven rebounds while Gray scored 19 points with 14 rebounds. Boyd's 15 assists were one shy of her own California program-record of 16 and marked the fourth time this season that the senior – who entered the game ranked second in the nation in assists per game at 8.3 – logged double figures assists in a game.

Washington used 30 points from Kelsey Plum and had five players in double figures scoring to earn their second consecutive win over the Bears. With the game tied 64-64 with 3:50 remaining in the game, Plum scored eight of Washington's final 15 points.

The game ended Cal's streak of consecutive minutes without trailing in a game when the Huskies took their first lead, 14-13, with 11:20 to go in the first half. Cal's streak ended at 168:40, dating back to a 70-57 loss to Louisville back on Dec. 21. Following that game, the Bears had not trailed in its four subsequent wins against Old Dominion, Utah, Colorado and Washington State.

California head coach Lindsay Gottlieb moves to 39-4 all-time against Pac-12 schools not based in the state of California while Mike Neighbors is now 2-1 against the Bears in his Washington tenure.

Cal returns home next week and will take on No. 18 Arizona State Friday night at Haas Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
