Opening Statement
“I'm disappointed in the outcome, I'm disappointed in our team, but I would say absolute credit and hats off to Arizona State. If Charli Turner Thorne is not in the conversation for National Coach of the Year right now, then I don't know who should be. They have a lot of players who may not have been recruited by every team in the country, but they can play with and beat just about any team in the country because of the way they play. I think that they are doing a tremendous job. Charlie told me before the game that they are playing with a lot of confidence, and I think that showed tonight. They were the better team tonight. I think that when you are playing a team that is that tough, I don't think that we had the requisite mental toughness, I don't think that we had the requisite resolve. We made some plays, we had our opportunities (but) we missed some close looks that we normally make at a crucial time. Overall to beat a team like that you have to be mentally and physically locked in for 40 minutes, and we were mentally and physically locked in for some of the time, not all of the time. I think that there is a lot of conference left to really get back to doing the things that are really going to allow us to win basketball games every day and then let our talent shine versus trying to rely on our talent. That is what our focus is going to be now for quite a while.”

On the last 10 minutes of the game
“We let them score critical baskets in ways that we had game planned not too. For example, letting Promise Amukamara go left and get to the rim. We put them on the free throw line too much. We couldn't get in a rhythm to get enough stops, and we obviously had a rough night shooting the ball. Like I said, we hung around but it never felt like we could get over that hump. We missed some easy ones and we missed some untimely ones. They made some critical shots. They made some runs for a while and they were just able to pull away. But even when we were up eight, even when we were down two, even when it was really back and forth, I never felt like we were doing quite a good enough job of being in control of the game, which is what we want to be.”

On playing smarter
“I take full responsibility because a lot of the scoring does come from me, and it has to kick in, and I have to stop making stupid fouls because my team definitely needs me more. So for me, I just have to play smarter and be smarter when I'm on the court.”
