TULSA, Okla. California's Florian Lakat and Andre Goransson combined to post three wins and advanced in main draw singles and back draw doubles on Friday at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

In the singles round of 32, the 36th-ranked Lakat recorded an upset victory over Georgia Tech's 24th-ranked and No. 9-16-seeded Christopher Eubanks, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The 22nd-ranked Goransson, also a No. 9-16 seed, notched a 7-5, 6-2 win over USC's 61st-ranked Max de Vroome.

Inclement weather moved several Friday matches, including Lakat's, indoors, though Cal's remaining matches at the All-American on Friday were played outdoors.

In Saturday's round of 16, Goransson faces Illnois' 46th-ranked Aron Hiltzik and Lakat plays Virginia's third-seeded and eighth-ranked Thai-Son Kwiatkowski.

The two Bears – ranked 25th in doubles – later took on Vanderbilt's 21st-ranked team of Rhys Johnson and Daniel Valent in the consolation round of 16. The Cal duo beat the Commodores, 7-5, 6-2, to set up a Saturday quarterfinal against Wake Forest's second-seeded and fifth-ranked Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – One Golden Bear won in each flight of singles on the first day of the UCSB Classic on Friday, with sophomore Billy Griffith posting a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Brett Bacharach of UC Davis in the Flight A round of 16.

J.T. Nishimura was trailing Errol Smith of LMU, 6-3, 4-3, when the Cal sophomore had to retire with an injury.

Cal split its matches in Flight B Singles as well, with freshman Ryan Shen besting Oregon's Alberto Reyes, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 16. Senior Wyatt Houghton lost to the Gauchos' Chase Masciorini, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), and will play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

The Bears also split its two matches in Flight C Singles, with freshman Gunther Matta beating Eli Whittle from UC Davis, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16. Senior Jordan Smith fell to Pacific's Lance Ngo, 6-3, 6-4, and moves to Saturday's back draw.

In the Flight A Doubles quarterfinals, Griffith and Nishimura lost to UCSB's Morgan Mays and Andre Riminton, 8-6. Due to Nishimura's injury, Griffith will instead pair with Shen in the Flight A Doubles back draw on Saturday.

Shen had teamed with Houghton to play in the Flight B Doubles, losing to Alec Adamson and Tommy Lam of UC Davis, 8-4. With Shen moving to play doubles with Griffith, no Cal team will play in Saturday's B Flight back draw.

Matta and Smith lost in the Flight C Doubles quarterfinals to UCSB's Masciorini and Riley Scott, 8-4, and plays in Saturday's consolation bracket.
