Potent Offense Not Enough For Bears

SEATTLE – The Cal volleyball team had the best offensive performance of any Washington opponent all season but the Bears fell to the No. 3 Huskies, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 at Alaska Airlines Arena.

The Bears hit .320 as a team, which was also their highest mark of the season. The Huskies entered the day ranked second in the country in opponents hitting percentage at .133. Washington hadn't allowed an opponent to hit over .300 against it all season.

Senior middle blocker Lillian Schonewise led the Bears (9-18, 3-13 Pac-12) with 14 kills at a .478 percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Antzela Dempi added eight kills and hit .429. Sophomore outside hitter Christine Alftin also had eight kills and added seven digs.

It marked the fourth straight match Schonewise has hit at least .400 and the 11th time this season. She increased her overall hitting percentage to .382 for the season, which ranks fifth in the Pac-12.

Junior libero Maddy Kerr had 14 digs for Cal and junior setter Alyssa Jensen had 35 assists.

The Bears will return to action Thursday against Utah at Haas Pavilion at 7 p.m.
