Cal-Westmont Postgame Quotes
Cal Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb
On today's performance:
“We clearly still have a lot of work to do, but I am very proud of the start. Courtney's (Range) leadership has been unbelievable in these practices coming up and that gives someone like Kristine (Anigwe) the ability to just play and to be the talent that she is. We still have a lot of work to do but I am pleased with where we started from today.”
On getting a look at the newcomers:
“We were getting sick of playing each other and we were ready to play somebody else. We have players that love competition that are fun to watch, and we play an exciting style so there is something different about gameday. It was fun seeing the work all come together in front of other people and that's why we do it, to entertain the fans. Our players really took advantage of these 40 minutes to have fun out there and worked really hard.”
On the improvements to be made
“I think it's a rhythm and we have a lot of versatile players. We are able to give people different looks at our team because we have mostly new players and many players in different roles. It is my job to get them as comfortable as possible, but it was nice to see the rhythm of the freshman. We have so many scoring options on the wing, and it is my job to get them as comfortable as possible no matter who the point guard is.”
Courtney Range
Reflecting on today's performance going forward:
“I feel very confident for the season because I have my team right behind me. With all the hard work and practice we had, we all felt confident coming into this game. We are looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Kristine Anigwe
On playing in front of a home crowd:
“I was very excited and knowing that I have great teammates, support and coaching staff made me that much more confident. I feel that we all just gave our hearts out and played hard today. I know we can improve on some things, but I feel that we are in a great position for the upcoming season.”
