Goni Selected to NFHCA All-West Squad

BERKELEY – Cal field hockey senior captain Clara Goni picked up her second consecutive National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honors, the organization announced Monday.

The veteran defender notched goals against Saint Louis and Kent State this season, as well as a pair of assists vs. Bryant and UMass-Lowell. Goni's season ended earlier than expected when an injury in the Oct. 24 game at Kent State sidelined her for the remainder of 2015. Though injured, the Cal captain continued to provide support and leadership for her teammates from the bench.

The award caps off Goni's stellar Golden Bear career, which includes two NFHCA All-West Region selections and three All-Conference honors. She was selected to the NFHCA All-West team in 2014. This year, Goni earned America East First Team honors in Cal's inaugural season in its new conference, added to an All-NorPac selection as a junior and All-NorPac All-West nod as a sophomore. She was an NFHCA Division I National Academic award winner as a freshman.

The Bears finished 2015 with a 9-10 overall record, and 4-3 record in conference play.
