Quick Hitters

Cal meets Air Force in the 2015 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl after posting a 7-5 regular-season record to secure a winning record for the first time since 2011. A bowl victory would give Cal its first eight-win season since the 2009 team was 8-5 and only the 11th for the Golden Bears since 1952, with only 17 squads since the beginning of Cal football in 1882-83 winning either nine or 10 contests.

Cal holds a 6-2 all-time advantage in the series with Air Forces including a 42-36 victory the last time the teams met in the 2007 Armed Forces Bowl with the Bears coming back from a 21-point deficit.

Jared Goff became the first Cal quarterback to be named first-team all-conference in 2015 since Aaron Rodgers in 2004 and was also a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. Goff started all 12 regular-season games and has surpassed his own single-season records for passing yards (4,252), touchdown passes (37), total offense (4,260) and touchdowns responsible for (37), while he is within reach of his own single-season marks for pass completions (316, record 320 in 2014), pass attempts (492, record 531 in 2013) and total plays (546, record 590 in 2013). Goff became the ninth quarterback in Pac-12 history to throw for more than 4,000 yards in a campaign and ranks seventh on the league's all-time single-season list, completing 316-of-492 (64.2%) passes for a 156.36 passer efficiency rating that currently ranks second on Cal's all-time single-season list. Goff leads the Pac-12 and ranks third in the nation in touchdown passes, while he is second in the Pac-12 and in the top 10 nationally in passing yards per game (#4 NCAA, 354.3), total offense (#5 NCAA, 355.0 ypg), completions per game (#5 NCAA, 26.33), passing yards; points responsible for per game (#7 NCAA, 19.2 ppg) and points responsible for (#9 NCAA, 230).

Cal is 10-10-1 all-time in bowl games with the Bears' last bowl appearance a 21-10 loss to Texas in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28, 2011. Cal has 11 players on its current roster that were members of the team in 2011 while Mustafa Jalil was the only member of the roster to play in the 2011 Holiday Bowl. Cal played in eight bowl games during a nine-season span from 2003-11 with a record of 5-3.

Cal has set single-season school marks in 2015 for passing yardage (4,425), passing touchdowns (38) and total offense (6,293) that were previously established in 2014 and has an opportunity to add single-season marks during its bowl game in total yards per game (524.4 ypg, record 495.2 in 2014), passing yards per game (368.8 ypg, record 331.4 in 2013), completions (327, record 368 in 2013), first downs (314, record 321 in 2003), first downs passing (185, record 188 in 2014), yards per play (6.86, record 7.03 in 2004) and fewest punt returns allowed (6, record 7 in 2014).

Cal ranks fifth nationally in passing offense (368.8 ypg), eighth in total offense (524.4 ypg) and 21st in scoring offense (36.5 ppg), with the Bears second in the Pac-12 in both passing offense and total offense as well as fourth in scoring offense.

Cal is the only team in the nation with six different receivers with at least 35 receptions, 450 yards receiving and two touchdown catches in 2015. Kenny Lawler (47-583, 10 TD) leads the team in receptions and touchdown catches, while Bryce Treggs paces the squad in receiving yards and average yards per reception (41-813, 6 TD, 19.8 ypr). Others that have put up the numbers include Darius Powe (43-490, 6 TD), Stephen Anderson (40-460, 2 TD), Trevor Davis (38-653, 2 TD) and Maurice Harris (36-491, 6 TD). All six have played in all 12 games.

Jared Goff - National Honors Candidate
Jared Goff became the first Cal quarterback to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors since Aaron Rodgers in 2004 and was also selected team MVP on offense after completing 316-of-492 passes for 4,252 yards with 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions for a 156.36 passing efficiency rating during the regular season as a 2015 junior, breaking his own school records in passing yards, touchdown passes, touchdowns responsible for and total offense while within reach of his own single-season school record for completions (316, record 320 in 2013), total plays (546, record 580 in 2013) and passing attempts (492, record 531 in 2013).

He has helped Cal secure a winning record after a 7-5 regular season and a spot in the postseason in 2015 for the first time since 2011 including a 5-0 start that was the Golden Bears' best since also winning their first five games in 2007 and one victory away from their best since the 1950 team won its first nine contests, ranking as high as No. 19 in the Amway Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the AP Top 25 in the Week 8 national rankings for its highest national rankings in six seasons.

Goff leads the Pac-12 and ranks third in the nation with 37 touchdown passes, while he is fourth nationally in passing yards per game (354.3); fifth in total offense (355.0 ypg) and completions per game (26.33); sixth in passing yards; seventh in points responsible for per game (19.2 ppg) and ninth in points responsible for (230), with all of the numbers other than the league-leading touchdown passes second in the Pac-12.

He was a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and was on watch lists for nearly every quarterback and player of the year award, reaching as high as No. 3 on the USA Today Heisman Hot List and tied for sixth on the ESPN Heisman Watch after the 5-0 start.

Goff has started all 36 games possible at Cal and is the only quarterback in school history to have ever started his first game as a true freshman.

He holds 26 Cal records including career marks for passing yards (11,733), TD passes (90), total offense (11,635) and completions (952).

Goff became the ninth Pac-12 player to throw for 4,000 or more yards in a season in 2015 and ranks seventh on the league's all-time single-season list for passing yards, while he is one of six players in conference history to throw for 3,000 or more yards in three seasons and the second to throw for 3,000 or more yards in each of his first three campaigns.

He has 2015 (156.36) and career (141.94) passer efficiency ratings that rank second and third on Cal's single-season and career lists.

Goff has 268 yards passing or more and at least two touchdown passes in 13 straight contests and all 12 games in 2015 most recently when he broke his own Cal single-game school record with 542 yards passing while adding five passing TDs and picked up another single-game school mark with 573 yards of total offense while leading Cal to a 48-46 comeback victory vs. Arizona State on November 28 to earn Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks.

He earned Pac-12 Offensive POW honors for the first time in his career in Cal's 54-24 victory over Oregon State, equaling his own school mark with six touchdown passes in regulation that are tied for the third-most in a game in the nation in 2015.

He was No. 5 on the San Francisco Chronicle's list of the Bay Area's 10 Most Exciting Athletes in September of 2015 behind only Stephen Curry, Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner and Carlos Hyde, and was the only non-professional athlete listed.
