BERKELEY - Cal baseball saw its impressive 10-game winning streak come to an end, dropping a 4-2 decision to No. 8-ranked Oregon (14-6, 1-2) Sunday at Evans Diamonds. The Golden Bears (15-4, 2-1 in Pac-12) had gotten within 3-2 in the seventh inning when freshman catcher Brett Cumberland hit a two-run double to right center field.

But, Cal yielded a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning for a 4-2 Duck lead, and then in the bottom of the ninth senior first baseman Chris Paul nearly tied the game with a towering shot that was barley foul down the left field line.

Still, it was an impressive weekend for David Esquer's squad, winning Friday night's contest, 9-3, and Saturday's game, 6-2. Crowds were impressive at Evans Diamond, with attendance figures of 1,214 Saturday and a season-high 1,613 Sunday.

The losing pitcher for the Bears was freshman left-hander Matt Ladrech (3-2), who went 6.0 innings with six hits, three unearned runs, one walk and one strikeout. Oregon's winner was reliever Stephen Nogosek (2.1 innings, two hits, two runs, five walks, two strikeouts) and reliever Garrett Cleavinger earned his third save.

Cal will next travel to San Francisco for a non-league game on Tuesday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at Benedetti Diamond. The Bears then travel to Washington for a three-game Pac-12 series in Seattle, beginning Friday, March 17 at 5 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
