TEMPE, Ariz. – Maegan Manasse clinched her second straight match as third-ranked California eased past No. 24 Arizona State, 6-1, on Saturday at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The sophomore – ranked second in the nation in singles – beat No. 36 Desirae Krawczyk, 6-2, 7-5, on court one to make the score 4-0, and the teams played out the final three matches.

The Golden Bears improved their record to 14-3 (5-1 in the Pac-12), while ASU's record is now 12-5 (3-2 Pac-12).

Cal captured the doubles point when the 11th-ranked pair of senior Zsofi Susanyi and junior Klara Fabikova beat the 77th-ranked team of Joanna Smith and Kassidy Jump, 8-4, on court two, and then junior Lynn Chi and freshman Karla Popovic defeated Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne, 8-4, on court three.

Fabikova, ranked 22nd, doubled Cal's lead with a 6-1, 6-2, court-two singles victory over Stephanie Vlad on court two, and then on court four, the 33rd-ranked Susanyi beat Smith, 6-3, 6-2, before Manasse secured the team win. Popovic and Starr added wins, while senior Cecilia Estlander lost on court six to make the final score 6-1.

“ASU is always a really solid team,” Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. “They're well-coached and competed really hard, especially in doubles. We're pleased with another road victory today, and another conference victory.

“We played much better doubles today than we played yesterday, so I was really pleased to see that. Also, Klara, Zsofi and Maegan played well in singles today.”

After six consecutive road matches, Cal returns to the Hellman Tennis Complex when it hosts Washington on Friday, April 3, and Oregon on Saturday, April 4.
