Lloyd's MVP Performance Helps U.S. Win Pan Am Gold
TORONTO – Former Cal star Carli Lloyd was named the Most Valuable Player of the Pan Am Games after leading the U.S. National Team to the Gold Medal on Saturday night with a 25-22, 25-21, 28-26 victory over Brazil.
Lloyd had 26 running sets in the title match to help the U.S. win the Gold Medal at the Pan Am Games for just the second time ever. Lloyd helped the Americans take the Bronze in 2011.
Lloyd, who was the AVCA National Player of the Year when she led Cal to the NCAA title match in 2010, led all setters in the Pan Am Games with an average of 9.36 assists per set. She also helped the U.S. team win the Pan Am Cup last month.
Saturday's win avenged a five-set loss to Brazil in pool play, the Americans' only setback during the Pan Am Games.
