Former Cal Forward Bonomo Signs with New York Red Bulls II
HARRISON, N.J. – New York Red Bulls II of the United Soccer League announced the signing of former California Golden Bears' forward Stefano Bonomo on Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Bonomo was selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft back in January by the New York Red Bulls with the 39th overall pick.
“This is great news for Stefano,” Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said. “He's been in Europe for several months and almost signed there. Being back in the United States will allow him to finish his last few units to graduate as well. The Red Bulls beat Chelsea a few days ago, so we know it's a great club for Stefano to be a part of. He adds to the long list of Cal players in the professional ranks.”
Bonomo earned All-Pac-12 first team honors for the first time in his career in 2014, as well as a second team nod on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America team and led the team in goals with 12. Bonomo also posted five assists, totaling 29 points in 17 appearances, 15 of which were starts. The Hillsborough, California, native finished his senior campaign on a tear, posting four goals and three assists in his last five games, scoring a goal on Nov. 30 at UCLA in the Round of 16.
