Boyd Selected to 2015 WNBA All-Rookie Team
NEW YORK – Former California All-American guard Brittany Boyd (2010-14) is a member of this year's WNBA All-Rookie Team, the league announced Thursday.
Boyd collected eight votes from a panel of the WNBA's 12 head coaches, third behind Rookie of the Year Jewell Loyd (10 votes) of the Seattle Storm and Boyd's New York Liberty teammate, runner-up Kiah Stokes (9). Each coach selected five players regardless of position. Ramu Tokashiki (Seattle Storm), Natalie Achonwa (Indiana Fever) and Ana Dabovic (Los Angeles Sparks) were also selected to the All-Rookie squad.
Boyd helped propel the Liberty to a league-leading and franchise-best 23-11 record entering the playoffs. The 5-9 guard was drafted ninth overall by the Liberty in April. She led all rookies in steals (1.17 spg) and ranked sixth in scoring (6.6 ppg) while adding an average of 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 30 games. Boyd started four games for the Liberty but has not appeared in the playoffs after suffering a wrist fracture in early September.
While at Cal, Boyd became just the second Golden Bear to ever become honored by both the AP and WBCA as an All-American in the same season. Also a Wade Trophy and Wooden Award finalist as well as a Naismith Trophy (Atlanta Tip-Off Club), Nancy Lieberman Award and Dawn Staley Award midseason candidate, Boyd averaged 13.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game. She is the only player in Pac-12 history to hit career marks of at least 1,400 points, 700 rebounds, 600 assists and 300 steals.
