Bears Remain Home To Host Arizona Schools
Coming off an eventful weekend, the Cal volleyball team hopes to keep the good vibes going as they host the Arizona schools this week at Haas Pavilion. Last weekend's action began with the college debut of
Savannah Rennie, the liver transplant recipient who took the court for the first time with the Bears less than five months after receiving a new organ. Cal followed up that emotional evening with its first Pac-12 victory of the season, a four-set win over No. 19 Colorado.Â

BE THE MATCH
Friday's match against Arizona State will also serve as "Be The Match" night at Haas Pavilion. In honor of the story of redshirt freshman
Savannah Rennie, who underwent a liver transplant in May and is now a healthy player for the Bears, Cal's volleyball program will educate fans about organ donation and offer $5 admission for fans who present proof they have registered to be an organ donor. Rennie will also deliver a taped message to the crowd on the Haas Pavilion video board.
RENNIE MAKES HER DEBUT
It was an emotional night last Friday at Haas Pavilion, as redshirt freshman
Savannah Rennie made her college debut less than five months after undergoing a liver transplant procedure. Rennie, who needed the transplant after contracting a rare liver disease known as Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis with Portal Hypertension, registered the first kill of her career during a loss to Utah. Rennie received her new liver at the Indiana University Transplant Center in May and returned to Berkeley by the start of training camp at the beginning of August. She initially practiced in limited fashion but gradually received complete medical clearance. Rennie was PrepVolleball.com's No. 20 Senior Ace fro Torrey Pines High School in San Diego and graduated early to enroll at Cal in the spring semester. But she became ill that summer and was finally diagnosed with the ailment last September.
BULLISH ON BELEN
Sophomore middle blocker
Belen Castillo had the best match of her young Cal career during Sunday's win over No. 19 Colorado. She set a career-high with 16 kills and tied her career best with six blocks, and put down Cal's final four kills of the match to close it out. Castillo, who played opposite on a part-time basis as a freshman, moved to middle blocker this season. Her previous career-high in kills was 15, set last season at Kansas State.
THE 1,60O CLUB
Senior libero
Maddy Kerr enters the weekend with exactly 1,600 career digs, becoming just the second Cal volleyball player ever to reach this mark. Kerr has her sights set on the program's all-time record of 1,810, held by Jillian Davis from 2003-06. Kerr is tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with 4.15 digs per set. She is the daughter of Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr.Â
