Bears Fall at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – Melina Moore scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season and California outshot Pacific on Friday at the Pacific Field Hockey Turf, but the Golden Bears lost, 3-1 to the Tigers in America East Conference action.

The Bears' record fell to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the America East. Pacific improved to 12-4 (3-1 AEC).

Cal posted 13 shots to the Tigers' 11. Despite Cal's 8-4 lead in second-half shots, Pacific scored twice to add to a first-half strike and give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Moore scored unassisted when she redirected a rebound past goaltender Laura Pujade at the 67:39 mark.

Goalie Kori Griswold made two saves in the first half, but the Cal junior couldn't stop Ali Campos from scoring off a long Savannah Burns pass at 32:58, giving the Tigers an eventual 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Pacific's Marguerite van Wyk tallied twice – at 52:42 and 61:44 – with Rylee Comeau, the cousin of former Cal field hockey player Rachelle Comeau, assisting on the second goal.

Cal returns to action when the Bears travel Stanford for a conference match on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Bay Area broadcasting the game.
