BERKELEY – Drake Callender's monstrous display in goal was not enough for the win as the Golden Bears suffered their seventh hard-fought conference loss of the season on Sunday in Berkeley.
Callender, a freshman, recorded seven saves that kept California (5-9-2, 1-7-1 Pac-12) in-step with Oregon State (5-7-3, 1-4-2) for the majority of the game. His nine-save best was against Oregon State earlier in the season.
After a scoreless first half by both teams, the Beavers had a succession of shots on goal stopped by Callender, but nicked one in during the 70' to ultimately win the game 1-0.
Cal also displayed offensive aggression throughout the contest recording 15 shots, 10 on goal.
The loss to OSU, who the Bears tied 2-2 in their match in Corvallis, Ore., is the seventh consecutive contest determined by one goal. Cal also stunned a then 24th-ranked UCLA 2-1 in Los Angeles to earn its first conference win on Oct. 20.
The Bears celebrate senior night on Nov. 11 as they host Bay Area rival Stanford in their final match of conference play and the season.
