Kerr Named To Academic All-District Team
BERKELEY – Cal senior libero
Maddy Kerr was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team on Thursday.
Kerr is the fifth Cal volleyball student-athlete to receive the honor, which started recognition in 1988 by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Kerr is now eligible to become a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
District 8 is made up eight states in the Western region of the United States – Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'I, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington – and Canada. Kerr was one of only three student-athletes from the Pac-12 to earn the honor.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or "important reserve" with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and play in at least 50 percent of her team's competitions. Freshman and first-year transfers are ineligible.
Kerr is double-majoring in Media Studies and Rhetoric and has a cumulative GPA of 3.76. She was a Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection last year.
The Bears are on the road this week, playing at No. 19 Utah on Friday and Colorado on Sunday. Kerr enters the weekend ranked second on Cal's all-time digs list with 1,677 and within striking distance of the program's all-time mark of 1,810.
