Bears Continue Unbeaten Streak

BERKELEY –  Four different players scored in double-figures for the Bears as Cal shot a season-high 60 percent from the floor on Sunday, beating Lehigh 96-63, at Haas Pavilion. With the win, the Bears improve to 9-0 on the season, extending the best start in program history. Cal's nine-game win streak is the team's longest since the Bears won a record 16 consecutive games in the 2012-13 season.

Sophomore Kristine Anigwe led all scorers with 26 points and added 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and the 20th of her career. Angiwe – who scored a school-record 50 points on Thursday against the Sacramento State – played just 23 minutes in Sunday's victory, going 12-14 from the floor with two blocked shots.

The Bears received big production from the entire frontcourt, with Courtney Range and Penina Davidson both chipping in 16 points. Range, who was playing in her 100th career game, went 3-5 from three-point range, while Davidson's 16 points were a season best and just one shy of her career high. Cal outscored the visiting Mountain Hawks 58-18 in the paint, with sophomore Chen Yue chipping in eight points off the bench on 4-4 shooting.

Cal also received excellent guard play from sophomore Asha Thomas and freshman Mi'Cole Cayton. Thomas scored 11 points and finished one assists shy of a double-double while Cayton dished out a career-best nine assists and did not commit a single turnover. As a team, the Bears matched their season-best with 29 assists to go with 39 made field goals.

Playing their final home game of the calendar year, Cal was in control from the outset, opening the game on an 18-1 run. Cal's stifling defense held Lehigh to just six points in the first quarter on 2-16 (12.5 percent) shooting, the fewest points the Bears have allowed in any quarter all season.

Lehigh's (5-6, 0-0 Patriot) offense came alive later in the game, paced by 23 points from Oakland-native Quinci Mann. But it wasn't enough to overcome the Bears' sharpshooting, as Cal – who entered the game ranked second in the nation in field goal percentage – shot 60 percent (39-65) from the floor and 70.6 percent (12-17) from the foul line.

The Bears will wrap up the non-conference slate in Las Vegas, playing in the Puerto Rico Classic hosted at the South Point Arena. Cal will face Southern Miss on Monday, Dec. 19, followed by tilts against Oklahoma (Dec. 20), and Arkansas State (Dec. 21).
