BERKELEY – California senior Christian Thierjung was one of 53 NCAA Division I college players invited to the adidas MLS Player Combine in Los Angeles from Jan. 8-23 Major League Soccer announced this week.

All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2017 SuperDraft presented by adidas, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 13 at the LA Convention Center.

Thierjung closed his career with the Golden Bears as the single-game record-holder for goals scored after knocking in five goals against Harvard on Sept. 18. He was the Bears' scoring leader for consecutive seasons totaling nine goals in each of the last two years.

In 2016, the Dove Canyon, Calif., native earned All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Academic honors, in addition to NSCAA/NCAA All-Far West Region and CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition. During his career he has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week twice and finished with all-conference recognition the last three seasons.

"Christian has had an exceptional career at Cal that was topped off with an historic five-goal performance this past season," said Bears head coach Kevin Grimes. "He looks to have an opportunity to continue his career in MLS and follow the footsteps of so many former Cal players."

A committee of MLS and NCAA Division I coaches from every conference selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. Further invitees, including Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players and additional college seniors, will be announced in the coming weeks.mmmmmmmmmmmm

A mix of MLS academy personnel and college head coaches will make up the Combine coaching staff.
