BERKELEY – California women's basketball opened its final home weekend of the season with a 65-54 victory over the University of Oregon Friday evening at Haas Pavilion.

Freshman Kristine Anigwe scored a game-high 18 points on 7-15 shooting and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Anigwe, along with fellow starters Courtney Range (13), Mikayla Cowling (12), and Asha Thomas (11), all reached double figures for the Golden Bears (13-15, 4-13 Pac-12).

Oregon (20-7, 9-7 Pac-12) played without its leading scorer and rebounder, forward Jillian Alleyne (19.0 PPG, 13.6 RPG) for the first time all season after Alleyne suffered a season-ending injury earlier this week. Without the Pac-12's third leading scorer & top rebounder as opposition, Cal jumped out to a 13-4 lead by the first media timeout (3:55) with great defensive effort and spirited transition play.

A score and free throw from Cowling with 3:32 left in the first pushed Cal ahead by double digits, a position the team would operate from exclusively until the fourth quarter. A Cowling-to-Anigwe connection would give the Bears their largest lead of the game (22 points; 47-25) with 5:56 to go in the third.

Cal led 54-39 to start the fourth period before the Ducks' last efforts to rally. Oregon started the fourth with back-to-back three pointers and a layup by Lexi Petersen trimmed the Cal lead to single digits (56-47; 5:10) for the first time since the opening quarter.

Anigwe restored order a minute later (4:02) with her final field goal of the contest to put Cal back up by 11 (58-47) and both squads scored seven points each to close the game.

Cal's defensive performance was exceptional, with its highlights coming in threes – the Bears held Oregon to its third-worst shooting performance (38.6 percent) and third-lowest point total (54) of the season, all while forcing its third-most turnovers (21) on the year.

On the offensive end, Cal converted the Ducks' 21 turnovers into 22 points and also outscored Oregon on second chances (13-12), in the paint (40-32), off the bench (7-5) and on the break (16-7).

Petersen paced Oregon with 20 points and Maite Cazorla chipped in 14.
