UC Davis Comes Back To Beat Cal, 7-5
DAVIS, Calif. - Trailing, 5-3, in the second half, UC Davis scored four unanswered goals to defeat the California women's lacrosse team, 7-5, Wednesday afternoon in Davis. The Golden Bears fell to 3-9, 1-4 on the year.
Meredith Haggerty and Elizabeth Pellechi each scored twice for the Bears. Haggerty also had an assist in addition to her two goals.
Pellechi notched the game's first goal at the 22:35 mark in the first half. Jena Fritts tallied an assist on the goal. Fritts also scored Cal's fifth goal of the day.
Following Pellechi's goal, UC Davis scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead with 11 minutes left before halftime.
Pellechi notched her second goal to start a run of four straight goals for the Bears, and 30 seconds into the second half, Cal held a 5-3 lead.
The Aggies started their run of four unanswered goals throughout the rest of the second half to clinch the victory. They tied the game at the 20:49 mark and secured the game winner with 15:42 left on the clock.
In addition to her nine saves, freshman goalie Jenny Wilkens also collected four ground balls. Wilkens has posted at least eight saves in all but one game this year.
Cal will seek its first road victory of the season when the Bears face Stanford on Monday, April 11, at 5 p.m. from Stanford. The game can be seen live on the Pac-12 Networks.
