Cal Opens Training Camp Monday, Aug. 1
Golden Bears To Play First Game Of 2016 College Football Season In Sydney
BERKELEY – Cal will open its 2016 training camp at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium on Monday, Aug. 1 (3:30 pm PT). The team will hold training camp practices at the venue for nearly three weeks before departing for Sydney, Australia, on Saturday, Aug. 20, where the Golden Bears will play Hawai'i in the first college football game of the 2016 season at the College Football Sydney on Friday, Aug. 26 (7 pm PT, ESPN). Given the 17-hour time difference between Sydney and Berkeley, the game will be kick off from the 83,500-seat ANZ Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 27 (Noon, Sydney Time). The contest will be the first ever college football game played in Sydney and the third ever in Australia as well as the first since 1987.
Due to the team's trip to Sydney the annual Golden Bear Day and Pigskins & Pearls events held each fall will not be held in 2016. Both are scheduled to return in 2017 with Pigskins & Pearls moving to a spring event.
Cal will have an open date after returning to the United States before resuming its season at San Diego State on Saturday, Sept. 10 (7:30 pm PT, CBS Sports Network). The Bears host Texas in their 2016 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 17 (7:30 pm PT, ESPN or ESPN2), with the Longhorns making their first trip to Berkeley since 1969.
In addition to Cal's first three contests, kickoff times and television selections are set for the Bears' home game vs. Oregon on Friday, Oct. 21 (7:30 pm PT, ESPN) and road contest at USC on Thursday, Oct. 27 (7:30 pm PT, ESPN). Times and broadcast information for Cal's other seven regular-season games will be announced at a later date.
In addition to the neutral-site road game against Hawai'i in Sydney and the contests at San Diego State and USC, Cal takes conference trips to Arizona State (Sept. 24), Oregon State (Oct. 8) and Washington State (Nov. 12).
The Pac-12 Championship Game at Levi's® Stadium is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2 (6 pm PT, FOX/FOX Deportes).
