ESPN To Televise Opener In Australia
First College Football Game Of Season To Air In Prime Time Friday, Aug. 26
BERKELEY – The College Football Sydney Cup featuring Cal against Hawai'i will be televised in prime time on the West Coast the evening of Friday, Aug. 26 on ESPN. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. PT.
The contest will be the first college football game of the 2016 season and the first ever in Sydney as well as the third in Australia and the first in the country since 1987. Given the 17-hour time difference between Sydney and Berkeley, Cal and Hawai'i will get underway from the 83,500-seat ANZ Stadium at 12 noon Sydney time on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Cal will have an open date after returning to the United States before resuming its season at San Diego State on Sept. 10 (7:30 p.m. PT, CBS Sports Network). The Golden Bears host Texas the following week in their 2016 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 17 (7:30 p.m. PT, ESPN or ESPN2), with the Longhorns making their first trip to Berkeley since 1969.
In addition to Cal's first three contests, kickoff times and television selections are set for the Bears' home game vs. Oregon on Friday, Oct. 21 (7:30 p.m. PT, ESPN) and at USC on Thursday, Oct. 27 (7:30 p.m. PT, ESPN). Times and broadcast information for Cal's remaining games will be announced at a later date.
