Cal Announces 2016 Team Captains

Darius Allensworth, Raymond Davison, Steven Moore, James Looney And Davis Webb To Serve In Role

BERKELEY – Head coach Sonny Dykes announced Saturday after Cal's final practice before departing for Sydney that Darius Allensworth, Raymond Davison, James Looney, Steven Moore and Davis Webb have been elected as team captains for the 2016 season in a vote of their teammates. All will be serving in the role for the first time at Cal.

"It's a great honor and a big deal to be named a team captain especially when it is voted on by your teammates," head coach Sonny Dykes said. "It's a really good group of student-athletes that have all come here through different paths and all worked really hard since they've been here. It's good to see guys come into the program and then grow up and develop into leaders. I couldn't be more proud of this group."

Cal will play Hawai'i in the first college football game of the 2016 season and the only Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) contest of the opening weekend at the College Football Sydney Cup in a game that will be televised live by ESPN in primetime in the United States on Friday, Aug. 26 (10 pm ET/7 pm PT). Given the 17-hour time difference between Sydney and Berkeley, the contest will kick off from the 83,500-seat ANZ Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Noon local time in Sydney.

The College Football Sydney Cup will be the first ever college football game played in Sydney and the third in Australia as well as the first in the country since 1987. Cal has played outside of the United States once previously at the Coca-Cola Classic in Tokyo, Japan, where the Golden Bears and Washington State played to a 17-17 tie on Nov. 28, 1987.
