TJ Picks Up Player the of Week Honors
Box Score BERKELEY – Great play begets great recognition.
Christian Theirjung is living in that moment after a stellar weekend of play that earned him Pac-12 Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. The senior was also selected as the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week in the same day.
A Dove Canyon, Calif., native, Theirjung's weekend performance was one for the books. Most notably, the Golden Bears' captain recorded five goals in California's 6-2 rout of Harvard on Sunday, believed to be an all-time program record and is the most ever in a single game under 17-year head coach
Kevin Grimes.
Thierjung, the Bears returning scoring leader, tallied his first goal of six on a penalty shot against Omaha on Friday to solidify a 2-0 shutout against the Mavericks.
He's recorded seven goals so far this season, just two shy of the nine he totaled last season which ranked third in the Pac-12.
Thierjung is the second Cal player to win the conference award as fellow captain and senior
Nick Lima was selected on Aug. 30.
Cal holds a 3-2-1 record as they head into a four-game road slate. The Bears face No. 25 UC Santa Barabara on Saturday at 7 p.m. (PT).
