SAN FRANCISCO – California women's basketball's 2016-17 slate includes 13 televised games in the regular season and several exciting giveaways and promotions in Haas Pavilion, head coach
Lindsay Gottlieb revealed Wednesday alongside the Pac-12's full schedule release.
Though none of Cal's nonconference games will be aired live, each non-televised game of the 2016-17 season will be available via a free livestream on CalBears.com. Additionally, fans are encouraged to make their way to Berkeley for an exciting slate of promotions, which starts with a fan bus trip to nearby Moraga for Cal's season opener on Friday, Nov. 11.
Head to Haas Pavilion for Cal's home opener vs. Santa Clara and receive a clear bag as the giveaway item of the game on Monday, Nov. 14. The bags will be compliant with Cal's new clear bag policy, which is in effect at all games at California Memorial Stadium and Haas Pavilion this season.
Thousands of schoolchildren will join the Bears for
the third annual School Haas Rock game.
As publicized earlier, Cal's Friday, Nov. 18 game against UC Riverside marks the third annual School Haas Rock event. Thousands of Bay Area schoolchildren are invited to Haas for a day of enriching experiences on the campus of the nation's No. 1 public university, which includes an early tipoff time vs. UC Riverside and educational demonstrations throughout the game.
The Bears will once again open the Pac-12 season in the Grand Canyon State, taking on Arizona on Friday, Dec. 29 and Arizona State on Sunday, Jan. 1.
Oregon State (Friday, Jan. 6) and Oregon (Sunday, Jan. 8) will kick off conference action in Haas Pavilion. The Ducks may not be able to escape the frosty north, because Jan. 8 marks Cal's second annual Snow Day in the Bay extravaganza. The Bears are bringing in synthetic "snow" to create a winter wonderland outside of Haas Pavilion before the game.
Afterward, the Bears hit the road again to face Colorado (Friday, Jan. 13) and Utah (Sunday, Jan. 15).
The Sun Devils head to Berkeley on Friday, Jan. 20 before the weekend wraps up with the Wildcats on Sunday, Jan. 22. Cal will also celebrate its annual Alumnae Weekend against the Arizona schools, with the weekend culminating with special recognition of former Golden Bears at the Arizona game.
Cal hits the road for two games at Washington (Friday, Jan. 27) and Washington State (Sunday, Jan. 29) before returning to Berkeley for a six-game Bay Area homestand.
The stretch starts with UCLA on Friday, Feb. 3. The Bruin-Bear matchup includes Cal's second annual Chinese New Year event, which helps celebrate the heritage of sophomore
Chen Yue. Last season, Yue worked with Cal Athletics' staff members to promote the holiday with lucky gold envelopes with prizes inside, and Year of the Monkey-themed décor throughout Haas. Halftime entertainment included a traditional Chinese Lion Dance.
Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day by joining the Bears on Sunday, Feb. 5 against USC as Cal honors the accomplishments of current and past student-athletes and the many females making their mark on collegiate and professional athletics worldwide.
Utah (Friday, Feb. 10) and Colorado (Sunday, Feb. 12) are up next, and just in time for Valentine's Day is Play4Kay weekend, which aims to raise awareness for the fight against women's cancers and honors former NC State head coach Kay Yow. Yow passed away from breast cancer in January 2009 after facing the disease three times. The Bears traditionally wear pink jerseys to honor Yow and the Play4Kay foundation.
Snow Day in the Bay features a winter wonderland on Spieker Plaza.
Cal's regular-season Haas finale begins the Battle of the Bay against Stanford on Thursday, Feb. 16, where the Bears will recognize
Courtney Range and
KC Waters for Senior Night.
A return trip to Stanford on Thursday, Feb. 16 completes the Battle of the Bay and six-game local homestand. The Bears will be offering a fan bus for the trip to The Farm.
Trips to Oregon (Friday, Feb. 24) and Oregon State (Sunday, Feb. 26) cap off the regular season.
All 13 of Cal's televised games will air on the Pac-12 Networks. The five that will not be televised are: at Arizona (Dec. 30), at Colorado (Jan. 13), at Washington State (Jan. 29), vs. USC (Feb. 5) and at Oregon (Feb. 24).
The Golden Bears return nearly every member of their 2015-16 squad, which includes USBWA National and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year
Kristine Anigwe. The now-sophomore broke program freshman records for scoring and rebounding. She'll be joined by All-Pac-12 honorable mention recipient
Courtney Range, All-Freshman honoree
Asha Thomas and seasoned veterans
Mikayla Cowling and Penina Davison. Cal's newcomers include two espnW Top 100 prospects of 2016 in
Jaelyn Brown and
Mi'Cole Cayton, as well as freshman CJ West and UTSA transfer
Sara Anastasieska.
