Bears Look to Rebound on the Road
BERKELEY – The Cal women's basketball team looks to bounce back from three consecutive losses, taking on Colorado at 6 pm PT on Friday night at the Coors Events Center in Boulder, Colorado. The Golden Bears (13-3, 1-3 Pac-12) have won nine of the last 10 head-to-head meetings with the Buffaloes (11-4, 1-3 Pac-12), though Colorado prevailed in last season's meeting in Boulder.
Cal is coming off a heartbreaking home loss to Oregon on Friday night, in which the Ducks hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to walk off with a 69-66 victory. Sophomore Kristine Anigwe led the Bears with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and scored her 1,000th career point early in the third quarter. Playing in just her 47th career game, Anigwe is the fastest to reach 1,000 points in Pac-12 history and tied for 20th-fastest in the history of women's college basketball. Junior Mikayla Cowling added 16 points for the Bears in Sunday's loss while classmate Penina Davidson had 13 points for her third double-digit outing in the last four games.
Colorado opened the season 10-0 but has since dropped four of its last five games, including a 71-52 loss to No. 19 Arizona State on Sunday afternoon. The Buffaloes ranked as high as No. 15 this season in the AP Poll and upset No. 15 Kentucky 79-69 on November 19. Sophomore point guard Kennedy Leonard leads the team in scoring with 19.0 points per game and ranks third in the Pac-12 with 5.7 assists per game. Colorado went 2-16 in conference play last season, splitting both meetings with the Bears. JR Payne's squad was picked to finish 11th in both the preseason Pac-12 Media and Coaches polls.

A LOOK AT THE BUFFALOES
Colorado is 11-4 on the season and 1-3 in Pac-12 play. The Buffaloes started the year 10-0 and were ranked as high as 15 in the AP Poll after upsetting then No. 15 Kentucky at home on November 19. It was Colorado's first regular season win over a ranked opponent since beating No. 8 Louisville on December 14, 2012. The Buffaloes' win streak was snapped in their non-conference finale vs Wyoming and they since lost four of their last five games overall, beating Arizona at home on January 6 for their first conference victory of the season.
Sophomore guard Kennedy Leonard, a 2016 Pac-12 All-Freshman Selection, leads the team in scoring (19.0 PPG) and ranks third in the Pac-12 with 5.7 assists per game. Leonard dished out 12 assists and zero turnovers in Colorado's win over Kentucky. Alexis Robinson and Haley Smith are also averaging double-digits for the Buffaloes, who lead the Pac-12 with 13.1 steals per game.
Head Coach JR Payne is in her first season at Colorado and has already surpassed last season's win total. The Buffaloes went 7-23 last year and finished last in the Pac-12 with a 2-16 conference record. Payne spent the previous two seasons at Santa Clara, leading the Broncos to a WNIT appearance in 2016.
Colorado was picked to finish 11th this year in both the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches' and Media Polls. Both polls had Cal finishing sixth.
LAST TIME OUT
Oregon drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Ducks a 69-66 victory over California on Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears clawed back from a seven-point deficit, but Oregon's heroics handed Cal its third consecutive loss as the Bears fell to 1-3 in conference play.
Sophomore center Kristine Anigwe led the Bears with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and scored her 1,000th point early in the third quarter, becoming the 28th member of Cal's 1,000-point club. Playing in just her 47th career game, Anigwe is the fastest player to reach the 1,000-point milestone in Pac-12 women's basketball history one of just 24 women to reach 1,000 points in 47 games or fewer.
Junior Mikayla Cowling added 16 points for the Bears, including 10 in the first half, while classmate Penina Davidson dished out a career-high five assists to go with 13 points.

REBOUNDS FOR RAMA
Rama N'diaye, a member of the Cal Women's Basketball team from 2006-2011, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer this past July at the young age of 29. As a result of the side effects of her treatments, Rama has not been able to consistently work and therefore has sustained significant financial hardship.
It is our goal as a Cal Family to help support Rama in her fight against Breast Cancer emotionally, spiritually and financially. We've introduced Rebound for Rama to allow our extended Cal Family to participate in that end goal, once again proving that our support extends well beyond the hardwood. Donations may be made based on the number of total rebounds that the current Cal team secures over the course of this season or as a flat rate.
Visit www.pledgeit.org/ReboundsForRama to learn about Rama's fight and please consider joining us in this effort.
