California hosts Arizona this Saturday in its annual Homecoming contest. Arizona has won the last three meetings with the most recent Cal victory a 24-16 win in Berkeley in 2009.Â
Defensive dominance led the Golden Bears to a 37-3 win over then-No. 8/9 Washington State in a Friday night tilt on October 13. Cal recorded 9.0 sacks (tied for the second-most by an FBS squad in 2017) and caused seven turnovers including five interceptions. It was the Bears' second win over a top-10 team since 1978 and the first since a 34-31 triple overtime victory against then-No. 3 USC in 2003. Â
American Red Cross Volunteers from Cal will be accepting cash donations in support of the American Red Cross California Wildfire Relief Fund at Saturday's game. There will be three locations at the stadium open from 3 to 5 p.m. where fans can drop off donations - Gate 2 on the plaza, Gate 5 on the Plaza and Gate 8 on the East Rim.
Cal leads the nation in turnovers gained with 20 with its 12 interceptions tied for second and eight fumbles recovered tied for fifth. The Bears also rank tied for fourth in the country while co-leading the Pac-12 with three defensive touchdowns. Â
Jordan Kunaszyk became the first Cal player to earn Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week recognition for his performance against Washington State. He was also the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week to mark the third time Cal has earned the honor in 2017 to equal a school record previously accomplished four times most recently in 2008. Kunaszyk established or equaled career highs with 11 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one interception.Â
Ross Bowers has a current string of 104 consecutive passes thrown without an interception spanning back to the fourth quarter against USC. Bowers scored against Washington State on a seven-yard TD run that ended with a highlight reel full flip over a defender into the end zone.Â
Vic Enwere rushed for season highs of 22 carries for 102 yards against Washington State while also punching in his third touchdown of the campaign and the 15th of his career.
Cal is 12-4 in home games at California Memorial Stadium since 2015 and 3-1 this season.Â
Cal is 4-0 when winning the turnover battle in 2017, 0-2 when losing it and 0-1 when the margin is even. Cal won the turnover battle against Washington State, 7-0, to mark the first time this season the Bears did not turn the ball over on offense.Â
Cal has three second-half shutouts this season (Weber State, Ole Miss, Washington State).Â
Matt Anderson has 272 career points and is 16 shy of Doug Brien's record for career scoring (288) while his 50 field goals are six short of Brien's career field goals record (56).Â
