The Cal volleyball team begins the second half of Pac-12 play this week with a visit to Arizona and Arizona State, and the Golden Bears are significantly ahead of schedule in terms of accomplihments than in recent seasons. They have already have their highest overall win total since 2013 and have equaled their conference victory total from all of last season. Cal is coming off a split with the Washington schools last weekend at Haas Pavilion. The Bears defeated Washington State and fell to No. 14 Washington. When the Bears hosted the Arizona schools earlier this year, they swept Arizona State and took down Arizona in five sets at Haas Pavilion.

BEAR NECESSITIES

HISTORY IS SERVED
Senior right side hitter Antzela Dempi is on pace to do something that no other Cal volleyball player has done before her - lead the conference in aces. Dempi enters the week atop the Pac-12, averaging 0.50 aces per set. No Golden Bear has ever paced the conference in aces per set or overall aces, two categories Dempi currently leads. With 38 aces on the season, she also needs just five more to break into Cal's all-time top-10 single season aces list. Sylvie Monnet holds the program record for aces in a season with 62 in 1983,

A STRONG LINK
Opposite hitter Carmen Annevelink continues to make the most of her first season as a starter. The junior had a strong weekend last week against Washington State and No. 14 Washington, averaging 2.59 kills per set with a .304 hitting percentage. Annevelink is also averaging 2.59 kills per set for the season, which is second on the team. Annevelink had a career-high 17 kills in a victory over Texas Tech earlier this season, which helped her be named to the Cal Classic All-Tournament Team. Annevelink is an integrative biology major who earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention last year.

PRESLIE MAKES AN IMPACT
Freshman Preslie Anderson is making her presence felt during her first season at Cal. She enters the week ranked 10th in the Pac-12 with a .320 hitting percentage and earlier this season registered 10 blocks during a five-set loss at Pacific - the most by a Cal player since Lara Vukasovic recorded the same amount in a match against Oregon in 2013. Anderson also had six kills against the Tigers. She was PrepVolleyball.com's No. 43 "Senior Ace" coming out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz.

TEENY'S PLAYING STREAK ENDS
When senior captain Christine Alftin sat out Sunday's match against No. 14 Washington because of an ankle injury, it snapped a streak of 82 consecutive matches played. Alftin has been a starting outside hitter since her sophomore year and played on a part-time basis as a freshman. The last match she missed previously came on Nov. 26, 2014 at Washington State.

#SAVSTRONG
Cal redshirt sophomore Savannah Rennie is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for Non-Hodgkin Post-Transplant Lymphoma. Rennie underwent a liver transplant last year after being diagnosed with Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis with Portal Hypertension, a rare liver disease typically seen in infants and elderly. Rennie recovered from her transplant quickly enough last year to play in 12 matches, including five starts, at middle blocker.
