CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior
Antzela Dempi had 10 kills and three blocks but the Cal volleyball team fell to Oregon State 25-20, 25-17, 25-13 on Friday night at Gill Coliseum.
Junior
Ashten Smith-Gooden added six kills for the Bears (11-5, 2-3 Pac-12) while senior
Christine Alftin had four kills and nine digs. Libero
Emma Smith recorded 14 digs for Cal.
The Bears got off to a strong start in the first set, breaking a 3-3 tie with a five-point run behind some tough serving from freshman
Isabel Potter to make it 8-3. The Beavers came back to tie it at 16-16 and then scored five of the next six points to go in front 21-17.
Cal fell behind quickly in each of the final two sets and wasn't able to recover.
Senior
Caihla Petiprin added three blocks for the Bears.
Cal will return to action Sunday at No. 16 Oregon at 2 p.m.
