BERKELEY – At the end of Week 8 action in the National Football League seven former Cal football players are on teams with at least a share of the lead in six of the NFL's eight divisions. Mychal Kendricks is on a 7-1 Philadelphia team that is leading the NFC East and has the league's best record. Others on teams with sole possession of first place in their respective divisions include
Tyson Alualu (Pittsburgh, 6-2, AFC North),
Cameron Jordan and Daniel Lasco (New Orleans, 5-2 NFC South), and
Mitchell Schwartz (Kansas City, 6-2 AFC West). Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams, 5-2, NFC West) and
Brian Schwenke (Tennessee, 4-3, AFC South) are on teams currently tied for Division leads.
Cal began the season ranked second in the Pac-12 and tied for 13th nationally with 32 former Golden Bears representing Cal as players on the NFL teams when the league's 2017 season opened. The current list includes 30 players on active 53-man NFL rosters and three others who are members of practice squads. Three more former Cal players are coaching in the NFL.
