PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Cal women's basketball team continues its tour of the East Coast on Sunday, taking on Brown University at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence. The Golden Bears (1-1, 0-0 Pac-12) are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to top-ranked Connecticut, 82-47, on Friday night in Storrs. Brown (2-0, 0-0 Ivy) is unbeaten to start the season, coming off a 78-55 victory over Central Connecticut State University on Thursday night.
Sunday's game marks a homecoming for Cal head coach Lindsay Gottlieb, a 1999 graduate of Brown and member of the women's basketball team. This will be the first ever meeting between the schools and Cal's first contest against an Ivy League opponent since an 80-39 victory over Dartmouth on December 20, 2011.
Ranked No. 20 in the AP Top 25 Poll for the second consecutive week, Cal is led in scoring this season by junior forward Kristine Anigwe, a two-time All-America honorable mention. Anigwe is averaging 15.5 points per game this season and is coming off a 14-point, nine-rebound performance against the Huskies.
Brown, who qualified for the inaugural Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament last season, will squaring off against a Pac-12 opponent for just the second time in program history, falling to Washington, 70-55, on December 27, 1989.

LAST TIME OUT
The unanimous No. 1 team in the nation proved to be too much for the Bears on Friday night, as the Cal women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in an 82-47 defeat to top-ranked Connecticut.
A preseason candidate for national player of the year, Kristine Anigwe led Cal with 14 points and had a game-high nine rebounds. Jaelyn Brown added eight points off the bench for the Bears, who outscored UConn, 20-15, in the fourth quarter. Six different players scored in double-figures for the Huskies, including 14 apiece from Crystal Dangerfield, Napheesa Collier, and Kia Nurse.
"This [loss to UConn] will help us in so many different ways," said Gottlieb following Friday's loss. "We talked about it that it exposes what our weaknesses are and shows a lot of good things about us. Right now, there's UConn and then everybody else. If we can get close to the top of the pack of everyone else, that's what we want."
The first game in the start of a four-year series between the schools, Cal senior Mikayla Cowling scored the Bears' first basket of the night, tying the game at 2-2 off a backdoor cut. The lay-in marked the 1000th career point for Cowling, who became the 29th player in Cal women's basketball history to reach the milestone.
Cowling scored again to give the Bears a 4-3 advantage, Cal's only lead of the night, and ended the night with six points and a game-high six assists.
Redshirt sophomore Sara Anastasieska registered a milestone of her own, making her first ever appearance for the Golden Bears. The Australian international who sat out last season after transferring from UTSA, made the most of her first minutes in blue and gold, going 2-3 from beyond the arc and finishing the game with six points.
SCOUTING THE BROWN BEARS
Coming off a pair of wins to start the season, Brown returns all five starters and 94 percent of its scoring from last year's team that went 17-13 and earned a berth in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament. Despite falling to Penn in the tournament semifinals, the Bears qualified for the Women's Basketball Invitational and earned the program's first ever postseason win with a victory over University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Sophomore guard Justine Gaziano leads the team in scoring this season, averaging an Ivy League-best 22.5 points per game. Gaziano had a team-high 22 points in Thursday's win at Central Connecticut while junior Taylor Will added 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. San Francisco native and 2016 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Shayna Mehta is third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game on the year.
Head coach Sarah Behn is in her fourth season as head coach of the Bears, having led Brown to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in a decade. A former standout at Boston College, Behn saw her squad set single-season program records last year for total points, field goals made, and free throw percentage. The Bears were picked to finish fourth in the 2017-18 Ivy League Preseason Coaches poll.
