Cal-UCLA Postgame Notes

  • With a 13-yard run on the final play of the first quarter, Patrick Laird reached 1,000 rushing yards for the season, becoming the 16th player in school history to reach the level. He finished the game with 32 carries for 178 yards, his fifth 100-yard game of the season and giving him 1,127 yards for the year.
  • Laird surpassed 150 yards rushing for the fourth time this year and third game in a row. Over his past three games, Laird has rushed for 545 yards, averaging 181.7 yards per game.
  • With a 32-yard field goal in the first quarter, Matt Anderson broke the Cal record with the 57th of his career. He entered the game tied atop the Golden Bear chart with Doug Brien, who had 56 field goals during his career from 1991-93.
  • Anderson kicked a season-high four field goals vs. UCLA – 32, 34, 37 and 20 yards. He had five field goals vs. UCLA in the 2016 season finale.
  • With 13 points vs. UCLA (4 FG, 1 XP), Anderson extended his school career scoring record to 316 points.
  • Cal registered nine tackles for loss, its second-highest total of the year behind only the 12 TFL vs. Washington State.
  • Raymond Davison's sack of QB Josh Rosen on UCLA's first offensive play lifted his team-leading total to 4.5 this year. Alex Funches registered two sacks to give him four on the year.
  • Jordan Kunaszyk recovered his first fumble of the season in the first quarter. As a team, it was Cal's 10th fumble recovery of the season. Kunaszyk later had a sack to give him 3.5 this season.
  • Cal's defense limited UCLA to 69 rushing yards on 37 attempts. It's the third time this year Cal has held an opponent to less than 100 yards on the ground (53 by Ole Miss; 23 by Washington State).
  • Vic Wharton III hauled in at least five passes for the ninth game this season. He finished with seven receptions for 61 yards.
  • Ross Bowers completed 25-of-41 passes for 242 yards. As a result, he topped 3,000 yards for the season, now with 3,039 yards. Cal has had a 3,000-yard passer each of the past five years (Jared Goff 2013-15; Davis Webb 2016).
  • Cal went 1-for-2 on fourth downs, making the Bears 17-for-25 this season.
