KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Three Golden Bears have earned All-Region recognition from the United Soccer Coaches Association, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon. Seniors Emily Boyd and Indigo Gibson earned First Team All-West Region honors while freshman Emily Smith was a Third Team All-West selection.

The full list of All-Region honorees can be found here.

This is the second consecutive year that Cal has had three or more players earn All-Region recognition and marks the second time in the last five years that the Golden Bears have landed multiple players on the First Team. Arielle Ship and Samantha Witteman were both First Team All-Region selections in 2015 and went on to earn All-American recognition later that year.

The 2017 Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year, this is the second career All-Region honor for Boyd, who was a third team selection in 2016. Cal's all-time leader in shutouts and saves, Boyd put together a stellar senior campaign in which she led the conference in save percentage and posted a career best 0.54 goals against average. The Seattle native ranks in the Top 20 in Division I this season in goals against average (0.54), save percentage (0.879), and shutouts (10). Boyd ends her tenure in Berkeley with 36 career shutouts, the most ever by a Golden Bear and the third most by any player in Pac-12 women's soccer history. She is the first player in program history to be named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year and is a three-time All-Pac-12 selection, earning First Team honors in 2017 and Second Team accolades in both 2015 and 2016.

A stalwart on defense and a semifinalist for the 2017 MAC Hermann trophy, Gibson played every minute for the Golden Bears during the regular season while helping Cal to a 13-6-1 overall record. A senior from Las Flores, California, Gibson was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on September 19 and helped Cal to a streak of five consecutive shutouts in Pac-12 play. Anchoring one of the top defenses in the nation, Cal was one of only three teams in all of Division I women's soccer to hold opponents to one goal or fewer in every match prior to the NCAA Tournament. Gibson is a member of the Under-23 United States Women's National Team and has helped Cal to a total of 39 shutouts over her four years.

One of only seven freshmen to earn All-Region honors, Smith started all 20 games for the Golden Bears this season and finished third on the team in total minutes played. A Third-Team All-Pac-12 and All-Freshman selection, Smith was another integral piece on the Bears backline and was one of only two underclassmen to start all 20 games for the Bears this season. A member of U.S. team that competed at the 2016 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup, Smith is currently in camp with the Under-18 U.S. Women's National Team.
