Gibson, Boyd Named All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – These Bears are Golden! Cal women's soccer seniors Emily Boyd and Indigo Gibson have been selected as All-Americans, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday. Gibson, a central defender from Las Flores, California, was a First-Team selection while Boyd, a goalkeeper from Seattle, was named to the Second Team.

The full list of All-America honorees can be found here.

With both Boyd and Gibson earning All-America status, this is just the second time in the last 25 years that Cal has had multiple players earn All-American honors in the same year. In 2015, Arielle Ship earned Second-Team All-America recognition while Samantha Witteman was a Third-Team All-America selection. Gibson becomes just the fifth player in program history to be named a First-Team All-American and the first since Alex Morgan in 2010. Boyd, the first player in program history to earn Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year honors, also becomes the first goalkeeper in Cal women's soccer history to be named an All-American.

"We could not be more happy to see Indigo and Emily receive this prestigious honor and be in such esteemed company with other great players," said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. "Both have worked tirelessly on their craft have very bright futures ahead of them. Indigo and Emily have been outstanding ambassadors for our program and will graduate from Cal before they start their journey into professional soccer. They epitomize all we believe in here at Cal."

A stalwart on defense and a semifinalist for the 2017 MAC Hermann trophy, Gibson played every minute for the Golden Bears during the regular season while helping Cal to a 13-6-1 overall record. A senior from Las Flores, California, Gibson was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on September 19 and helped Cal to a streak of five consecutive shutouts in Pac-12 play. Anchoring one of the top defenses in the nation, Cal was one of only three teams in all of Division I women's soccer to hold opponents to one goal or fewer in every match prior to the NCAA Tournament. Gibson is a member of the Under-23 United States Women's National Team and earned First-Team All-Pac-12 recognition in 2017.

The 2017 Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year, Boyd is Cal's all-time leader in shutouts and saves, and put together a stellar senior campaign in which she led the conference in save percentage and posted a career best 0.54 goals against average. The Seattle native ranks in the Top 20 in Division I this season in goals against average (0.54), save percentage (0.879), and shutouts (10). Boyd ends her tenure in Berkeley with 36 career shutouts, the most ever by a Golden Bear and the third most by any player in Pac-12 women's soccer history. Her 0.54 goals against average is the second-lowest in a season in program history while her career-high 80 saves this year are the most by any Cal keeper since 1999. Boyd is the first player in program history to be named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year and is a three-time All-Pac-12 selection, earning First Team honors in 2017 and Second Team accolades in both 2015 and 2016.
