STOCKTON, California - The Cal women's basketball team(7-2, 0-0 Pac-12) made it four wins in a row, riding another impressive offensive performance to a 92-85 victory over Pacific (4-5, 0-0 WCC) on Sunday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Junior forward /center Kristine Anigwe matched her season high with 28 points and added 18 rebounds for her second double-double of the season while senior Penina Davidson had a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for her team-leading third double-double of the year.
Mikayla Cowling (15 points) and Kianna Smith (12 points) also scored in double-figures as Cal tallied a season-high 92 points, 60 of which came in the paint.
With the win, extends its winning streak to four in a row, the team's longest winning streak of the season and Cal's longest since going 13-0 to start the 2016-17 campaign. The Golden Bears have now won their last three games on the road and improve to 3-1 this season away from home. Cal's three-game road winning streak is tied for Cal's longest road winning streak over the last three seasons.
Cal made its presence in the post felt early, as Anigwe and Davidson scored Cal's first 14 points of the game, going a combined 6-8 from the floor to start the first quarter. Anigwe scored 12 of her game-high 28 points in the opening quarter as the Bears led 25-22 after the first 10 minutes. The two-time Honorable Mention All-American went 11-19 from the floor and grabbed 18 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and second consecutive 20-point outing. After grabbing a career-high 25 rebounds on November 19 against Brown, Anigwe is the only player in Division I this season to have 18 or more rebounds in multiple games.
Pacific used a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to temporarily take the lead, however the Bears responded with a 5-0 run of their own to jump back ahead. The Golden Bears took a 46-39 lead into the locker room after closing the first half on an 8-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back three-point plays by Cowling and Jaelyn Brown. Cowling, who had just six points in Cal's last game against San Diego, scored nine of her season-high 15 points in the second quarter.
The Bears built their lead in the third quarter as Davidson got to work down low. The senior from Auckland, New Zealand scored 7 of her career-high 22 points in the third quarter, finishing in double-figures for the second consecutive game. Davidson went 9-11 from the floor and added 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double, three of which have come this season.
GeAnna Lualul-Summers led Pacific with a triple-double, tallying 18 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds. The Tigers drew within five points with 54 seconds left to play behind a layup from Jenelle Grant, however Cal went 3-4 from the foul line over the final minute to seal the victory.
Cal has now won four straight against Pacific and has won 21 of its last 22 games against West Coast Conference foes, including a 4-0 record against the WCC this season.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, December 16, hosting BYU (4-5,0-0 WCC) at 5 p.m. PT. Cal's final home game in non-conference play, this will be the fourth meeting all-time between the Cougars and Golden Bears and the first since a matchup in the quarterfinals of the 2010 WNIT. Saturday's game is the second leg in a double-header at Haas Pavilion, with the Cal men's basketball team taking on Cal State Fullerton at 1 p.m. PT.
