BERKELEY –California's Aravind Sivakumar continues to reel in the honors for his academic achievements that parallel his athletic accomplishments during his career with the Golden Bears.

This time, the senior from Cupertino, Calif., has been named to the prestigious College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Third Team for men's soccer, the organization announced Thursday. With a 3.90 grade point average, the computer science major is one of 36 national honorees recognized by CoSIDA.

Academic accolades have highlighted Sivakumar's tenure who also earned Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Nov. 17. He is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and was named to the first team this year, which made him eligible for the Academic All-America team.  The midfielder also is a two-time first team Pac-12 All-Academic selection.

"This is another incredible and well deserved award for Aravind," said head coach Kevin Grimes. "He epitomizes what all coaches would want in a student-athlete.  He's an outstanding student first and foremost. On the field, Aravind has special talent and skill that is combined with a work ethic that is second to none."

Sivakumar maximized his time off the field by getting in-field experience in the technology industry, in which both his parents work. He spent this past summer interning at Twitter coding for the ad targeting team. He becomes the second member of the men's soccer program to earn the honor, joining forward Andrew Wiedeman on the all-time list for Cal. Wiedeman was named to the second team in 2009.

The senior closed the year starting all 17 games, recording one goal, two assists and 15 shots, five of them on goal. Sivakumar tallied his lone goal of the year in the First Round of NCAA Tournament on Nov. 16 as Cal closed the 2017 season with a tough 2-1 loss to USF.
