BERKELEY - The Golden Bears open conference play this week as California heads to Oregon for the 2017 MPSF opener. Cal was defeated by Denver in its regular season opener last Friday, 15-5.

Oregon currently holds a three-game winning streak over the Bears. The last time Cal defeated the Ducks was a 14-10 win in 2013 in Eugene.

When these teams met last year in Berkeley, Meredith Haggerty scored twice, Jena Fritts collected two assists and Jenny Wilkens made 11 saves. The Ducks were victorious, though, 15-5.

Sophomore goalie Jenny Wilkens picked up where she left off after her impressive freshman campaign with a strong performance in the 2017 opener against Denver last Friday, totaling 13 saves. She kept the Bears in the game with 10 of her 13 stops coming in the first half. The 13 stops tie for second best in her career after she made 20 against San Diego State last year. This was also the second straight game in which she tallied 13 saves as she also collected 13 in the 2016 finale against Saint Mary's. Wilkens now boasts seven career double-digit save performances in 16 games played. Her career mark of 9.69 saves per game (155 saves in 16 games) ranks third in school history. Wilkens has finished with fewer than eight saves on only three occasions.

Cal's 2016 points leader Jena Fritts found the scoresheet multiple times against the Pioneers last Friday, tallying a goal and an assist. Fritts paced the Bears in points (30) and assists (20) a year ago.

Caroline Schlegel scored twice against Denver, while Elizabeth Pellechi, who led the team in goals in 2016 with 22, scored against Denver along with four shots taken.
