CORVALLIS, Ore.  – Cal battled with league-leading Oregon State for 40 minutes, but it was the 10th-ranked Beavers who prevailed 71-56 in the regular season finale at Gill Coliseum. With the loss, Cal (18-12, 6-12 Pac-12) has now lost five straight to the Beavers and enters the The victory gives Oregon State (27-3, 16-2 Pac-12) sole ownership of the Pac-12 regular season title, the third consecutive season the Beavers have claimed at least as share of the conference crown.
Freshman Jaelyn Brown had a career-high 21 points to lead the Bears, going a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc, highlighted by a buzzer-beater from just inside mid-court to end the third quarter. Brown, who scored just 16 points in her previous four games combined, went 7-9 from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the  foul line, to lead all scorers. Sophomore center Kristine Anigwe added 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots in the loss.
Senior guard Sydney Wiese, the Pac-12 career leader in three-point field goals, led the Beavers with 19 points, going 4-8 from beyond the arc. Oregon State also got double-digit performances Marie Gulich and Kolbie Orum, who added 14 points and 11 points, respectively.Â
Oregon State jumped out to an early lead, opening the game on a 17-4 run. The Beavers held a 24-12 lead after the first quarter, out-rebounding the Bears 8-0 in the first five minutes of the game.
But the Golden Bears stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring Oregon State 22-17 in the second period and holding a 10-6 advantage on the glass. Brown, who had eight points off the bench in Friday's win at Oregon, scored 10 of her game-high 21 in the second quarter, draining a three at the buzzer to cut the halftime deficit to seven.
However, much like the first meeting between the teams, the third quarter proved to be pivotal, Â as the Beavers opened the half on a 10-2 run. Oregon State outscored Cal 18-9 in the third quarter, taking its largest lead of the game at 59-40 before Brown's half-court heave cut to cap the quarter.
Brown hit a pair of free throws with 7:25 left in the game to make it a nine-point game, but the Bears could get no closer, falling short on the third straight trip to Gill Coliseum.Â
Cal will be back in action on Thursday when the 2017 Pac-12 Tournament begins at Seattle's KeyArena. The Bears, who finished 10th in conference last season, finished tied for seventh in the Pac-12 this  season and will learn their first round opponent and game time later Sunday evening.
Cal reached the semifinals of the Pac-12 tournament last season as a 10 seed, beating Utah and Arizona State before falling to UCLA in overtime, denying the Bears a trip to the final.
