Bears Seek SoCal Sweep
BERKELEY – Coming off a thrilling upset over No. 13 UCLA on Friday night, the Cal women's basketball team (16-7, 4-7 Pac-12) looks keep its momentum going on Sunday morning, hosting USC (12-10, 3-8 Pac-12) at 10:30 a.m. PT. The early tip marks the first game in a double-header at Haas Pavilion on Sunday, as the Cal men's basketball team takes on Colorado at 1:30 p.m. PT.
The Golden Bears are coming off their biggest win of the season, beating the 13th-ranked Bruins, 80-77, on Friday night at Haas Pavilion. All five of Cal's starters scored in double-figures as the Bears earned their first win of the season against a Top-15 opponent. Freshman guard Mi'Cole Cayton made the most of her second career start, scoring 11 of her career-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Bears opened the game on a 16-0 run. Cal weathered UCLA's comeback attempt to hand the Bruins their sixth consecutive loss at Haas Pavilion.
USC is coming off a 58-42 loss to 8th-ranked Stanford on Friday night at Maples Pavilion. Kristen Simon led the Trojans with 11 points, but the Cardinal outscored the Trojans 21-10 in the third quarter as Stanford head coach Tara Vanderveer earned her 1,000th career victory. USC has lost eight of its last ten in conference play, beating Arizona and Arizona State at home last weekend. However, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke's squad has struggled on the road, dropping its last four games away from home. The Trojans lead the all-time series with the Bears, 39-28, and have won each of the last two meetings.
Join the Bears in celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day, with an on-court demonstration at halftime by members of Cal's women's golf, beach volleyball, rowing, and lacrosse teams. Sunday's game is a Cal Kids' Day, with $1 tickets for all youth ages 17 and under. To celebrate Super Bowl Sunday, adults can purchase $3 general admission tickets by wearing an NFL jersey to the box office. All women's basketball tickets purchased for Sunday's game vs USC can be exchanged for complimentary tickets to the Cal men's basketball game at 1:30 vs Colorado. Tickets for the second game must be exchanged at the ticket booth on Spieker Plaza or at the Ticket Exchange table in the lobby of Haas Pavilion.

A LOOK AT THE TROJANS
The Trojans are 12-10 overall on the season and 3-8 in Pac-12 play, coming off a 16-point loss to No. 8 Stanford on Friday night. USC got double-digit performances from both Kristen Simon (11 points) and Minyon Moore (10 points), but was outrebounded, 39-27, as Cardinal head coach Tara Vanderveer earned her 1,000th career win.
USC has lost eight of its last 10 games overall and has dropped four straight on the road. The Trojans rank third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, but were held to just 2-9 shooting in Friday's loss to Stanford.
Junior forward Kristen Simon leads the Trojans in both scoring (14.8 PPG) and rebounding (9.1 RPG) and has eight double-doubles on the season. Three other players are averaging double-digits for USC this season – Courtney Jaco (11.0 PPG), Minyon Moore (10.8 PPG), and Sadie Edwards (10.5 PPG). Jaco is the team's best shooter from beyond the arc, shooting 44.1 percent from downtown this season.
Head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke is in her fourth season at the helm in USC, leading the Trojans to a 19-13 record and eighth-place finish in the Pac-12 last season. The first WNBA player enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Cooper-Dyke starred for the Trojans' 1983 and 1984 NCAA Championship teams. USC was picked to finish ninth in both the Pac-12 Preseason Media and Coaches polls. The Bears were slated to finish sixth in both polls.
LAST TIME OUT
Cal avenged its season-ending loss to UCLA in last year's Pac-12 tournament with an upset win over the 13th-ranked Bruins on Friday night. All five starters scored in double-figures for the Bears as Cal beat UCLA, 80-77, snapping the Bruins six-game winning streak.
Junior Mikayla Cowling, sophomore Kristine Anigwe, and freshman Mi'Cole Cayton all scored 18 points apiece for the Bears, who earned their first win of the season over a Top-15 opponent. Senior Courtney Range added 15 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season while sophomore point guard Asha Thomas had 11 points and eight assists.
Cal opened the game on a 16-0 run, holding the 13th-ranked Bruins scoreless until the 4:13 mark in the first quarter. Cayton, making just her second career start, made her presence felt from the get-go, scoring 11 of her career-high 18 points in the first quarter. Defensively, Cal held UCLA to just six points in the opening period on 2-15 shooting, tied for the fewest points the Bears have allowed in any quarter all season.
NEXT UP
The Bears continue their five-game homestand next weekend, hosting Utah on Friday, February 10, at 6 pm PT. Cal lost to the Utah earlier this season in Salt Lake City, falling to the Utes, 63-57, on January 15. Friday's game and Sunday's 3 p.m. contest vs Colorado are part of the Bears' annual Play4Kay weekend.

REBOUNDS FOR RAMA
Rama N'diaye, a member of the Cal Women's Basketball team from 2006-2011, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer this past July at the young age of 29. As a result of the side effects of her treatments, Rama has not been able to consistently work and therefore has sustained significant financial hardship.
It is our goal as a Cal Family to help support Rama in her fight against Breast Cancer emotionally, spiritually and financially. We've introduced Rebound for Rama to allow our extended Cal Family to participate in that end goal, once again proving that our support extends well beyond the hardwood. Donations may be made based on the number of total rebounds that the current Cal team secures over the course of this season or as a flat rate.
Rama and several members of her family will be in attendance on February 12, when the Bears host Colorado at 3 p.m. PT in their annual Play4Kay game.
Visit www.pledgeit.org/ReboundsForRama to learn about Rama's fight and please consider joining us in this effort.
