BERKELEY – California will have its plate full this week.
The No. 23 Golden Bears (16-4) hosts back-to-back home games, before heading on its sixth road trip, in as many weeks, where they open up conference play with against Oregon in Eugene.
Before entering into ultra-competitive Pac-12 play, the Bears hosts a two-game homestand.
On Tuesday, Cal welcomes Lehigh, followed by its first home matchup against a ranked opponent on Wednesday when its faces No. 7 Minnesota. Both competitions begin at 4 p.m. with live stats available on CalBears.com.
The Bears are coming off of a difficult road trip at the Tulsa Invitational where the team was unable to compete in two of the four scheduled games due to inclement weather. However, the Bears split in a doubleheader last Friday routing Montana 7-0, but falling to host-team Tulsa 4-0.
Scouting Lehigh
The Mountain Hawks hold a 5-10 record so far this season and are coming off of a 1-4 weekend in at the Stanford Easton Classic. In its last outing to close the tournament, Lehigh tabbed its lone victory las weekend with a 2-1 win over UConn.
The Patriot League members hold a .254 average at the plate while their opponents average a .306 across 15 games. The Mountain Hawks have given up 71 runs, while finding the plate 42 times so far this season.
Led by junior Rachel Timberman with a .357 batting average, Lehigh boasts four batters with above .300 average, including Ashley Quidolit (.343), Nicole Yozzo (.342) and Mary-Hannah Smith (.333). The group has accounted for 14 of the team's runs, with Timberman collecting five.
Freshman Reva Alderman (.242) has also been clutch offensively for the Mountain Hawks with a team-leading 10 RBIs and three runs of her own. Senior Ashley Cole leads with seven runs.
Lehigh is also led by a senior veteran Christine Campbell in the circle. With a 4-2 record, Campbell amassed a 1.85 ERA across 41.2 innings pitched.
Scouting Minnesota
The seventh-ranked Gophers (22-2) have won four of their last six games including blanking Pac-12 rival Oregon State, who the Bears face in to close the season. Minnesota is also coming off of a tough matchup with eighth-ranked conference foe Washington, who downed the Gophers 3-2 and 9-0 over the weekend.
Minnesota is led by freshman starter MaKenna Partain with a .486 batting average and team-high 22 runs. Junior Sydney Dwyer also boasts an impressive average at the plate with a .417 average. Dwyer has collected 30 hits and leads the Big Ten team RBIs.
While the twosome guides the team, the load is shared with six other starters posting batting averages above .300 and at least 15 runs.
Collectively, the Gophers have recorded a .342 average and limited opponents to .206 at the plate. The Midwestern foes have outscored opponents 151-49.
Sara Groenewegen leads in the circle for Minnesota boasting a 0.71 ERA in 69.1 innings pitched.
Cal leads the all-time series 10-3, but loss the most recent matchup in 2015, 8-1 in Berkeley.
