The Lady Bears (31-3) are the top seed in the Oklahoma City Region and are hosting the first and second round matchups at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.

This will be the sixth meeting all-time between Cal and Baylor and the second in the NCAA Tournament. Cal senior Courtney Range was the only member of Cal's current team to play in that game, scoring six points and adding five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench as a freshman.

Cal's current crop of underclassmen played vital roles on Saturday night, leading the Bears to a 55-52 win over LSU in the first round of the tournament. Sophomore point guard Asha Thomas led all scorers with 18 points, going 6-9 from three-point range to match the program record for the most made three-pointers by any player in an NCAA Tournament game. Classmate Kristine Anigwe scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, going 7-7 from the foul line and draining a pair from the stripe with to give the Bears a three-point lead with six seconds left. The Golden Bears withstood LSU's comeback attempt and held on to secure their 20th win of the season.

Baylor is coming off an historic win in its tournament opener vs Texas Southern, beating the 16-seed Lady Tigers, 119-30, for the largest margin of victory ever in an NCAA Tournament game. Baylor's 119 points are also the most any team has ever scored in regulation in an NCAA tournament game and held a record +41 advantage (61-19) on the boards. The Lady Bears are coming off their seventh consecutive Big 12 regular season title and a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the last seven years.

A LOOK AT THE LADY BEARS
Baylor is making its 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and is looking to advance to the Sweet 16 for the ninth consecutive season. The Lady Bears (31-1, 17-1 Big 12) have won 30 games for the seventh consecutive season and secured their seventh consecutive Big 12 regular  season title. However, Baylor fell to in the Big 12 Championship game, denying the Lady Bears their seventh straight conference tournament title. Baylor's lone conference loss of the season came on February 6 against No. 11 Texas, snapping the Lady Bears' 54-game home winning streak.

One of the most dominant teams in the nation, Baylor leads the country in scoring margin, beating teams by an average of 34.2 points per game this season. The Lady Bears also lead the nation in field goal percentage defense (30.9 percentage), blocked shots per game (8.1 blocks per game), and rebounds per game (51.8 rebounds per game).

Sophomore center Kalani Brown leads the Lady Bears in both scoring (15.4  points per game) and rebounding (8.2 rebounds per game), one of four Baylor players averaging double-figures. Senior Nina Davis – who had 13 points and six rebounds in the 2014 matchup with Cal – is averaging 12.5 points per game while classmate Alexis Jones has returned from an injury that sidelined her during the Big 12 Tournament. Jones leads Baylor in assists and is averaging 13.6 points per game on the season.

Head coach Kim Mulkey is in her 17th season as head coach of the Lady Bears and has led Baylor to two NCAA Championships, winning the title in 2005 and 2012. While Baylor has reached the Elite 8 each of the last three seasons, the Lady Bears have not reached the Final Four since going 40-0 in their 2012 title run.

LAST TIME OUT
Making its first tournament appearance since 2015, the Cal women's basketball team knocked off eight-seed LSU, 55-52, Saturday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive time and are a perfect 5-0 in tournament openers under head coach Lindsay Gottlieb. Saturday's win was Gottlieb's 138th career victory at Cal, giving her sole possession of the second-most wins by any head coach in Cal women's basketball history.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Lady Tigers 18-9 in the first quarter and leading by as many as 10 points early in the second quarter. Sophomore Asha Thomas, who entered the game just 2-13 from three-point range, went 6-9 from beyond the arc, tying the program record for most three-pointers made in an NCAA tournament game. In addition to matching the tournament mark, Thomas tied her own career high and pushed her season total to 63 made three-pointers, one shy of tying Jennifer Self's single-season record set in 1992.

Sophomore center Kristine Anigwe scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, and added seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Anigwe was vital in the final moments of the game, blocking LSU's shot attempt at the rim which would have given the Lady Tigers the lead and then drained a pair of free throws with six seconds left to give the Bears a three-point lead. Cal outscored LSU 24-20 in the paint, though the Lady Tigers forced the Golden Bears into 20 turnovers, which they converted into 17 points.

Cal upset No. 8 Louisville last season, 75-71, in non-conference play after falling to the Cardinals in the Final Four in 2013. The Golden Bears and Lady Vols have never met.
