Bears Fall In Series Finale At UCLA
Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A big day at the plate by host UCLA and a shaky day in the field by the Cal baseball team meant a one-sided score on getaway day as the Bears fell 20-0 in the series finale at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Â
Cal (9-12, 1-5 Pac-12) found itself in a hole early Sunday as UCLA posted a run in the first inning and three more in the second. A Cal error and a passed ball in the second helped sustain the Bruins' rally and staked UCLA to the lead.
Â
UCLA (10-11, 4-2) added single runs in the third and fourth before putting the game out of reach with a six-run fifth. Cal starter
Tanner Dodson exited with one out in the inning and, two batters later, Sean Bouchard provided the game's biggest blow with a three-run home run to left-center.
Â
Cal didn't do itself any favors in the field, committing seven errors on the afternoon. The Bears also never got their own bats going, collecting just three hits on the day as Jon Olsen tossed seven scoreless innings for the Bruins.
Â
The Bears won't have to wait long to get back to work as they return to Evans Diamond on Monday night to host Long Beach State in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 7:05. Cal picks Pac-12 play back up next weekend when Washington State visits for three games in Berkeley.
