BERKELEY - In the midst of back-to-back Pac-12 weekends away from home, the Cal baseball team returns to Evans Diamond on Tuesday for the second of two non-conference games against San Francisco this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. between the Bears and Dons. Live updates will be available through the Cal Baseball Twitter account (@Cal_Baseball).

Cal comes home on the heels of a weekend in Seattle that saw the Bears pick up one win over Washington. The return to Berkeley should provide a definite edge for a Cal squad that is 15-6 at Evans Diamond this season and the Bears enter the game riding a nine-game home winning streak that includes sweeps of Washington State, Arizona State and USC.

PROJECTED STARTERS
Cal: LHP Arman Sabouri (1-2, 8.38 ERA)
San Francisco: LHP Sam Granoff (2-3, 4.98 ERA)

LAST TIME OUT
A Saturday win saw Cal tie its series against host Washington but the Huskies rebounded on Sunday to pick up a 4-1 win and take the series at Husky Ballpark. Washington earned a 5-2 win on Friday as the series, combined with a 7-2 loss at San Francisco on Tuesday, left Cal 1-3 on the week.

The Bears' one win during the trip to Seattle featured a big day at the plate from Jonah Davis and a memorable relief performance by Erik Martinez. Davis drove in four runs with a pair of doubles and Martinez worked 4 2/3 innings of quality relief to pick up his third win of the season.

Cal had chances to stay right with the Huskies on both Friday and Sunday. The first game of the series hinged on a three-run eighth inning for Washington while Sunday's action saw the Bears strand nine runners and hit into three double plays in a 4-1 decision.

SCOUTING REPORT: SAN FRANCISCO
  • The Dons enter Tuesday's game with a 22-23 overall record after being swept by host BYU over the weekend. San Francisco scored 16 runs over the three-game series but yielded 38 to the Cougars.
  • Allen Smoot enters Tuesday's contest as USF's leading hitter with a .341 mark. Smoot is also the Dons' top run-producer with 32 RBI. Head coach Nino Giarratano's squad features six different players with 20 or more RBI.
  • The Dons own a 4.20 staff ERA entering Tuesday's game and usual Tuesday starter Sam Granoff comes in with a 2-3 record and 4.98 ERA. Relievers Brendan Jenkins and Scott Parker have seen the most action out of the bullpen with 25 and 27 appearances, respectively.
  • Cal leads the all-time series 121-44.
  • Last meeting: Three innings with multiple runs carried the Dons to a 7-2 victory over the Bears on April 25 at Benedetti Diamond. An RBI single by Andrew Vaughn and run-scoring walk by Conner Bock accounted for Cal's runs on the day.
PRE-VIOUS EXPERIENCE
Preston Grand Pre returned for his junior season as Cal's most experienced field player and, after a hand injury delayed the start of his year, he has contributed consistent production with a .400 batting average (14 for 35) over his first 12 games. The native of Laguna Beach, Calif. hit .290 as a sophomore in 2016 and brings a career .276 average into the 2017 season. He has appeared in 120 games with 118 starts as a Golden Bear entering the USF game.

ON DECK
Tuesday's game marks a brief stop at home for the Bears as they gear up to head back out on the road for another trip to the Pacific Northwest. This time, Cal heads to Corvallis, Ore. to take on No. 1-ranked Oregon State in a three-game series that begins Friday. All three games will be broadcast live by Pac-12 Networks. Once they return, the Bears will host six in a row at home with the final two home series of the season featuring tough competition in Stanford and TCU.
