Stanford Visits For Big Pac-12 Weekend
BERKELEY - The Cal baseball team begins the season's final stretch of home games with its final home Pac-12 series of the season as Stanford visits Evans Diamond for three games beginning Saturday. The series, which will be broadcast by Pac-12 Networks with Guy Haberman and JT Snow on the call, will be broadcast live all three days.
The Bears will look to keep their home mojo going against the Cardinal as Cal brings a 10-game home winning streak into action on Saturday. That stretch includes sweeps of USC, Arizona State and Washington State as well as the Bears' most recent win, a 1-0 victory over San Francisco on May 2. Cal is 16-6 at Evans Diamond this season and 10-2 in home conference games.

LAST TIME OUT
Final exams have taken the Bears' attention in the week leading up to the Stanford series so, with no mid-week game, Cal's last action came over the weekend in Corvallis, Ore. where No. 1-ranked Oregon State picked up a three-game sweep at Goss Stadium. Saturday's game was one of the most exciting of the season for the Bears as
Denis Karas hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in six but three late runs by the Beavers proved the difference as Cal fell 11-10.
In Cal's last mid-week game, six Bears combined to fire a three-hitter and
Matt Ruff drove in the game's only run with an RBI single in a 1-0 victory over San Francisco on May 2. That game was Cal's last mid-week contest of the 2017 season.
SCOUTING REPORT: STANFORD
- Winner of 12 of its last 13, Stanford comes to Berkeley as one of the nation's hottest teams. That streak has propelled the Cardinal to as high as 10th in one national poll and inside the top 15 in every ranking in head coach Mark Marquess' 41st and final season as Stanford's skipper.
- Stanford has gotten consistent offense from several key regulars as six players own a batting average of .294 or higher. Matt Winaker and Quinn Brodey lead the way at .306 and Brodey is the team's top run-producer with seven home runs, 13 doubles and 40 RBI.Â
- Stanford's rotation has stayed consistent throughout the year as left-handers Kris Bubic, Andrew Summerville and Chris Castellanos have anchored the staff. That trio has been able to turn the ball over to junior Colton Hock and the right-hander set the school's single season saves record in Tuesday's win over San Francisco with his 14th of the year.
- Last meeting: Stanford swept the teams' two mid-week matchups at Sunken Diamond with an 8-4 win on April 4 and 6-4 victory on April 18.Â
BASEBALL FOR BOOKS
During the Saturday and Sunday games against Stanford, Cal Baseball will team up with the East Bay Children's Book Project, a provider of books to under-resourced schools, non-profit organizations and after-school programs for the third-annual Baseball for Books drive. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used children's books to donate.
ON DECK
Cal's final home series of the 2017 season is set for May 18-20 when national power TCU comes to Evans Diamond for three non-conference games. After the Horned Frogs depart, the Bears will turn their attention back to Pac-12 play as a trip to Arizona from May 26-28 will bring the curtain down on the regular season.
