Cal’s Klinsmann Named to US Men’s National Team for U-20 World Cup

BERKELEYCalifornia goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann continues his offseason world tour after being selected to the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team roster for the U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic, Tab Ramos, the team's head coach announced, recently.

A Newport Beach, Calif., native, Klinsmann is 1 of 21 named to the roster.

This news comes after the sophomore earned the Golden Glove Award for best goalkeeper as he helped lead the USMNT to its first-ever 2017 CONCACAF championship in San Jose, Costa Rica in early March to help the team qualify for the World Cup.

"This is a great honor for Jonathan to represent our country at the FIFA U-20 World Cup," said Cal head men's soccer coach Kevin Grimes. "Whenever you have the chance to wear the jersey of your home nation, it is a thrill like no other.  He is in very select company as one of just three collegiate players selected to the World Cup roster.  We wish him all the best for a great tournament."

The U-20 World Cup runs from May 20-June 11 after the team leaves training camp in Japan that began on May 10.
