Anderson Qualifies For NCAAs At West Regional
AUSTIN -
Ashley Anderson will join
Peter Simon and
Bethan Knights at the NCAA Championships after she qualified in the triple jump on Saturday in the final day of the NCAA West Regional from Austin, Texas. The trio will compete in two weeks at the national meet in Eugene, Ore,. Anderson finished eighth with a personal-best mark of 13.20, 43-3.75. That mark also ranks fifth in school history.Â
In the 110m hurdles,
Ashtyn Davis just missed qualifying for NCAAs as he came in 13th place with a time of 13.99.
Thomas Joyce and
McKay Johnson performed well, though they also just missed out on advancing. Joyce clocked in at 4:00.57 in the 1500m, good enough for 16th, while Johnson came in 20th in the discus with a mark of 54.16, 177-8.Â
"It was a day full of surprises," director of track & field
Tony Sandoval said. "
Ashley Anderson qualified with a PR in the triple jump, while
Ashtyn Davis just missed qualifying with his 13th-place finish. There are no guarantees in this sport, and many spots across all events were very small.
Thomas Joyce and
McKay Johnson finished higher than their ranking, but didn't advance. We have three that will represent us in Eugene."
The NCAA Championships will take place from June 7-10.Â
