Former Bear Nick Lima Called to USMNT

BERKELEY – California alum Nick Lima is among 30 players called by U.S. Men's National Team head coach Dave Sarachan for the annual January Camp, the team announced recently. Players will report to the National Training Center in Carson, Calif., Wednesday.
 
A 2016 graduate, Lima finished his four-year tenure at Cal with a NSCAA/NCAA All-Far West Region First Team member and All-Pac-12 selection. The success continued as he headed into his professional playing career joining the San Jose Earthquakes on a Homegrown Player contract ahead of the 2017 season.
 
During his rookie campaign, the defensder made 20 starts in 22 appearances for the Quakes, tallying two goals and an assist. The Castro Valley, Calif., native finished fourth in voting for the MLS Rookie of the Year Award.
 
"This is a tremendous and well deserved accomplishment for Nick.  He worked extremely hard over his four years at Cal to become a professional player," said Golden Bears head coach Kevin Grimes. "He had a great rookie season this past year for the Quakes and his invite to the USMNT will be an amazing opportunity for him to play internationally for the US team.  We are very proud of Nick and look forward to seeing him represent our nation."
